I hope you all had a GREAT summer and are back with enthusiasm!! I am really excited about this year. We teachers have had informative, exhausting, and challenging in-service and professional development this summer learning new common core curriculum and new lesson plan and grading systems. I say informative because we teachers continue to learn just like you do. Hopefully, all of you will be life-long learners, too. This is a teacher's goal: to help you want to learn throughout your lives.
For those students who don't know me, this is my second profession. I was in the restaurant business most of my life when I decided to get my Masters from UA and teach. I taught at Prarie Grove (just outside of Fayetteville) for eight years, and I have been at Mineral seven years this year. I also teach at UACCC two nights a week, and I have had several of my former Mineral studernts.
I have one daughter who is a lawyer and works for WalMart headquarters in Bentonville. She, her husband, and their four sons live in Fayetteville. My oldest greandson, Hayden is a senior at UA, and Drake is a sophomore at UA. Hayes, 16, is a sophmore at Fayetteville High, and Hunter, the youngest, is in the sixth grade. Since I only had one daughter, these boys have been a whole new experience for me. We're pretty crazy about each other. It has been fun watching them grow like it has been a pleasure for me to watch my students as they grow and mature.
As you know, the curriculum for pre-AP and AP students is rigorious. I hope you all are ready to tackle the work with the knowledge that with hard work, you will be sucessful. It takes both students and teachers working together to achieve the best education for you. If anyone needs help or has questions about your work, I will be available. Since our classes are tightly scheduled in the mornings, I ask you to please schedule a time during my eighth period for conferences, or make other arrangemenets for conferencing. In addfition, I will be scheduling conferences with you during the year to discuss your progress.
Again, I am looking forrward to the new school year!!
